Identifying an unknown product nuclide balances two independent one-step linear equations — 25 + 4 = A + 1 for mass number and 12 + 2 = Z + 1 for charge — each isolated exactly like solving for x; they are not a system needing elimination, just the same isolate-the-unknown move performed twice.
